Cadernos PROARQ

Cadernos PROARQ is a semi-annual publication of the Postgraduate Program in Architecture at FAU - Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism/UFRJ. Submissions of unpublished scientific articles are welcome in the following areas of knowledge: Architecture and Urbanism; Architectural Teaching and Design; Theory, History and Criticism; Health Environments; Culture, Landscape and Built Environment; Housing and Human Settlements; Sustainability, Environmental Comfort and Energy Efficiency; Revitalization and Restoration; Heritage Management and Sustainability.

Articles can be submitted in a continuous flow or through calls for thematic editions, with the participation of guest editors, at regular intervals.

The target audience of Cadernos PROARQ are researchers in the field of Architecture and Urbanism and related areas, including professors, postgraduate students and professionals with recognized expertise in the subject. The first author of any article must have a minimum Master's degree. The limit of authors in the article must not exceed the number of five.

In 2023 Cadernos PROARQ inaugurated the FORUM Section as an action to enhance scientific and social impacts that aim to provide the presentation of emerging themes, translations of renowned texts, essays and/or criticism with specific focuses, always based on invitations addressed to researchers of excellence in the area of Architecture and Urbanism.

Since 2012 the journal's format has been electronic.

Sensory Explorations, Ambiances in a Changing World

The December 2025 edition of CADERNOS PROARQ will be consolidated based on the debates and methodological constructions presented at the 5th International Congress on Ambiences, held in October 2024 in Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon. Based on the various sessions developed over the 4 days of the event, the best articles presented, selected by the Scientific Committee, will be invited to be included in the thematic edition of CADERNOS PROARQ through adaptation and submission of the works, undergoing double-blind evaluation and, thus, ensuring the due originality of the text.

In addition to the articles recommended by the Scientific Committee, CADERNOS PROARQ will receive submissions strictly related to the axes discussed at the event, concerning the study of the practical, experimental, and relational nature of human-urban coexistence through Ambiences.

We welcome papers that explore, not exclusively, but also architectural, urban and landscape ambiances and atmospheres; the understanding of ontologies, forms and affective powers of Ambiences; or that focus on the cultural, social and political dimensions of situated bodily experience or, even, the impact of Ambiences on forms of human sociality and new opportunities for uses, as well as reviews of the collective character of built spaces. At the same time, we also expect proposals for articles to rethink the way we occupy the world, because Ambiences are agents that enable associative forms of sharing spaces: they intensify social relations and make convivial relationships possible.
